TROY SOWDEN

Lead Pastor

Pastor Troy's full-time ministry experience dates back twenty years. He studied Youth Ministry at Toccoa Falls College in Georgia before moving to Tulsa, OK in 2001 to intern for Church on the Move. After four years of training there, he moved to Mississippi to join the staff at CityChurch (then called Church on the Horizon), which was 18 months old.

JUSTIN & MEGAN GIVENS

KidCity Directors

Justin and Megan have been part of our kids ministry since shortly after finding CityChurch in 2019 and have had the joy of serving as KidCity Directors since 2023. They are passionate about creating a fun, safe, and engaging space where kids can grow in their relationship with Jesus. They have a daughter, named Ella, who also loves being part of the action! AUSTIN WALDROP

the662 Director

Born and raised in DeSoto County, Mississippi, Austin brings deep local roots and

heartfelt commitment to City Church! He has 15 years of leadership in church ministry, including time in youth, children, missions, outreach, and administration. These experiences have shaped a ministry style that blends the weight and wisdom of Scripture with in-your-face facts, relevancy, and conviction grounded in everyday life, as well as a unique understanding of the challenges our young people are facing. His greatest passion lies in mentoring young people, empowering them to live for God’s glory and purpose for their lives. Whether coordinating outreach events or guiding administrative efforts, his leadership is always rooted in servanthood and dedication to spiritual growth. His ministry moves beyond lectures, offering heartfelt guidance, laughter when appropriate, and leadership that builds up the next generation.

Austin graduated with his Bachelor’s in Christian Ministry from Regent University. When he is not serving inside the walls of CityChurch, you can find him floating on his kayak,

meticulously tending to his garden, or reveling in time spent with his four nieces. Learn more about the662 here.

HUNTER LAND

Worship Director

Hunter grew up in church with his Uncle as his Pastor. He was raised in a home that loved worship and eventually started singing at church at the age of 14. After moving to the area in 2016, he began attending CityChurch in 2017. He accepted the Worship Director position in 2019 and has since led an incredible team of musicians and vocalists that help us enter the presence of God at Sunday Worship Service and special events. He and his wife, Jennie, met at CityChruch and got married in 2019. Hunter also heads up the team that writes and produces the original music by CityChurch Worship. You can check that out here!

TIM & STACY SLADE

Media Directors

Tim and Stacy have been part of CityChurch since 2012, and these tech wizzes have served in our Media Team for almost that entire time. In 2021, they started putting that technology knowledge to use, teaming up to take over our Media Director role. They lead a great team that oversees in-house sound, media projection, and online broadcasting. Outside of church, they enjoy playing video games together and hanging out with family. They have one daughter, Mei, who will turn one year old soon!

STEVE & AMANDA YELVERTON

First Impressions Directors

Steve and Amanda started attending CCOB in 2019. They recently took over First Impression in the fall of 2024 after faithfully serving under previous leadership. Although we believe here at CityChurch that everyone is part of first impressions, their team's mission is to create a welcoming culture for anyone who walks in. They also encompass the coffee bar, the ushering team, as well as partnering with the security team. They are huge Memphis Tigers fans and enjoy attending university sporting events as a family, as well as trips to Top Golf. The Yelvertons have one son, Bradley, as well as three daughters in Alexis, Rylee Grace, and Kynlee Faith.

REGINA CALVIN

Mission OB Director

Regina started attending CityChurch in June of 2016. She served faithfully as the KidCity Director from 2018 to 2023. After a short break from staff, she returned to lead as Director of MissionOB, which exists to serve our local community. Regina and her son, Ashton, love to serve both at CityChurch and in MissionOB together. They're both very involved in multiple ministries. You can find out more about MissionOB here!

SUSAN WIERSEMA

Administrative Assistant

Susan is the Administrative Assistant to Pastor Troy, the staff, and the church. She is passionate about the Church’s mission and is often found behind the scenes organizing events, assisting volunteers and members, and doing all the administrative tasks for the church. Susan and her husband, Dave, moved here 10 years ago from the Midwest, have been married for over 30 years, and have 3 adult children -Julie (Taylor), Laura, Brad (Gabby), and one granddaughter, Bethany. Susan and Dave are also on our Elder Team and lead the Prayer Team and the Marriage Ministry.

When Susan is not working, she loves to spend time with her family and friends. She loves to bake, read, and travel. (Her chocolate chip cookies are legendary)
